Location: Lądek Zdrój, Poland

Project name: Social gardens in Lądek Zdrój – bringing social gardens to the town hit by flood

Hosting organisation: Stowarzyszenie “Jeden Świat”

Sending organisation: “Common Sense” Youth Organisation

Lądek-Zdrój, a historic Polish Sudety resort town near the Czech border, was severely damaged by a flood in fall 2024, affecting southern Poland, the Czech Republic, and Austria. The destruction is still visible, but the residents are striving to restore their space and create a fresh start for life. This includes gardens which will provide a social space for cultural events and promote the town’s welcoming image to tourists. Volunteers will help construct a decorative wooden-crate amphitheater to support plants and social gatherings. They’ll also craft educational boards detailing local plants and the collaborative recovery efforts. Gardening tasks include creating a year-round herb and edible plant garden and monitoring plant growth. The study theme focuses on nature, sustainable gardening, and its role in community building.
