The center is located 25km from Brussels and can host up to 220 residents including 40 unaccompanied minors. There are different kinds of services which are offered to the residents, among them: social support, medical service, reception, school support and leisure time activities. Volunteers will integrate the service of leisure activities, whose aims are, on the one side, to support children and teenagers in their schooling and, on the other, to organize leisure time activities, mainly in the social and cultural field, for the residents. Some activities in the neighborhood are also carried out, whose aim is to raise awareness in the local community about asylum seekers. Volunteers will work with children and with adults.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements: 

The two volunteers will be living in a shared flat. They will get a travel card allowing them to access the closest cities, located at about 30km from Rixensart itself. Volunteers will receive a monthly allowance for food & pocket money.
During your ESC project, your accommodation, food, transport is fully covered by the program.
There is a budget to reimburse the travel of the volunteers depending on the distance of their place of residence, calculated with the Erasmus Distance Calculator.

Application conditions and requirements for volunteering: 

✔ basic knowledge of written and spoken english
✔ Between 18 and 30 years old
✔ interest in working with migrants/on migration issues
✔ flexible and open minded as well as empathetic
