Purpose of the project: CAVALO AMIGO – Associação Portuguesa de Terapia e Formação Equestre – is a private non-profit organization founded in 2007 with the aim to provide therapeutic horse riding sessions to people with disabilities and special needs residing in the district of Coimbra, mainly in Figueira da Foz and Montemor-o-Velho. Our mission is to help improve the lives of people with disabilities and special needs that can benefit from horse riding and other equine related activities. We currently work on a weekly basis with over 40 children and adults who would, otherwise, not be able to afford benefiting from such an excellent therapeutic method. In order to keep our project alive, we rely on funding and on a growing network of volunteers. We are willing to improve the well- being of our community by bringing in a multicultural dimension, diversity and new approaches in our activities, organisation and local community.

For all the other meals they get food allowance from the Supporting organisation.
Application conditions and requirements for volunteering:
We appreciate young volunteers that are: open minded, feeling confident with the objectives of the Host organisations, like horses, are creative, taking initiatives, having a sense of responsibilities, organised and able to adapt to different conditions of living and work, flexible to establish relations with different persons. It’s very interesting when volunteers have special abilities to contribute to the projects, although it’s not necessary to have any special knowledge, education or skills.
