Long-term volunteering project in Portugal!

Purpose of the project: The Portuguese Red Cross – Local Branch of Cucujães is a non-governmental humanitarian organization working with people from all paths of life but especially the most vulnerable people in the community. Volunteers support activities related to food bank, clothes, shoes and toy items donations, organizing leisure time activities for elderly people, for people recovering from addictions and for people with intellectual disabilities. Volunteers also do activities with children in local schools and with Pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela (on the local Pilgrims Shelter). This is a very hands-on and diverse project that gives young people the opportunity to experiment new things and work with multiple target groups.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Volunteers will have their shared apartment and they will also share bedroom and bathrooms with other volunteers. The apartment is located close to the organization’s headquarters (10 min walk). Volunteers receive 6€/ day of pocket money and a food allowance for purchasing food and cooking at home. Volunteers also receive a free health insurance and the reimbursment of their airplane travels (to start the project and at the end of the project).
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
All volunteers attend On-Arrival Training and Mid Term Training, both of them organized by the Portuguese National Agency and will also be able to participate in a Portuguese language course. Volunteers will also get the chance to participate in Red Cross Trainings to learn more about the Red Cross/ Red Crescent Movement.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We are looking for young people between 18-30 years old who excited about the opportunity to start their volunteer journey in Portugal in late August 2024. We are looking for open-minded people with a desire to learn new skills, try new things and discover their professional/ vocational interests. We prefer people who are hands-on/ practical and those that value diversity and the chance to be part of an international volunteering team.
