Volunteers come to Hyvärilä youth centre for 2 months to explore local culture and interpret it in a creative way by creating a new program for youth based on Karelia.Finnish epics Kalevala. Volunteers utilize a nearby movie set in order to create an engaging program for young people aged 13-25 who visit Hyvärilä youth centre. During the project volunteers will explore both cultural and natural heritage of North Karelia and basics of adventure education and youth centre pedagogical approaches. They will create and pilot a program for youth as the result of their project. The project is taking place during the coldest months of the year, but we have some warm clothes you can borrow and a cosy home for you to stay in with your teammates. A total of 4 volunteers will be selected for the project.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements:
Accommodation in Hyvärilä youth centre, in a wooden house for volunteers and seasonal workers in a single room with shared shower, kitchen, and living room. Meals are served in cafeteria. Travel costs (up to the maximum lump sums according to ESC program limits), accommodation and meals are covered by the hosting organization. Volunteers get pocket money, and a bicycle to go to Nurmes (3.5 km away). Pocket money 7 EUR/day. Volunteers earn 2 holiday days per month according to the Finnish work law.
Training during the activity
Volunteers take part in an on-arrival training and an introduction week upon arrival to Hyvärilä youth centre.
Participant profile
The project is looking for motivated young individuals, who are eager to develop their artistic and creative skills, engage in team activities with young people from other countries, learn about different cultures and share their own culture with others. Interest in culture, history, arts and creativity will be a benefit. Love for nature, working with young people, and spending time in secluded and tranquil locations are essential!
