The Kreisjugendwerk (KJW) of AWO Karlsruhe-Stadt is a nonprofit organisation. It organizes activities and events for children and young people. The KJW work focuses on participation and personal development and is open to all young people of any background.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements:

Depending on the location of your volunteer service, you will be accommodated in one of these places: 

  • In a house close to the citywith six more ESC volunteers. You will share a kitchen, two bathrooms, a dining room and a yard.
  • in a house in Villingen with five more young adults, both international and local. You will share a kitchen, a batrhroom and a yard.
  • in an apartment in Esslingen together with seven more young people, both international and local. You will share a kitchen, two batrhrooms, a community room and a yard. The apartment is right next to your workplace.
  • in a house in the city of Karlsruhe with two more ESC volunteers. You will share a kitchen, a bathroom and a livingroom.
  • in a 3-floors house in the city of Karlsruhe, with 9 more ESC volunteers. Bathrooms and a kitchen are shared

While each of these accomodations provide a warm and international community, you will have your own single bedroom. All apartments are either in walking/cycling distance to your workplace or well connected to the public transportation system. You will need between 20 to max. 40 minutes to reach your workplace, according to the chosen activity.

As a volunteer, you will receive the following: 

  • a monthly allowance of about 500€
  • free accomodation
  • a free travel card for public transportation all around Germany
  • free insurance 
  • constant support from the KJW as your coordinating organisation before and during your stay
  • refund of visa costs (if applicable)
  • free seminars for your personal and educational growth
  • free German language course 
  • a both local and international community from your very first day that shows you around Karlsruhe and the region

Participant profile

Since our job openings are so various, they each come with different requirements. You will find out more about them by taking a look at the job openings. However, each volunteer should be open minded to new people and ready for the adventure of living in a different country. You should also be willing to learn German while you’re here, or even have some basic skills already.
