Long term volunteering project in Finland!

Project name: Youth work (adventure & outdoor education) in the most rural area

Purpose of the project: We offer volunteering for two volunteers from the beginning of April 2023 until the end of September 2023 (or just slightly shorter – to be confirmed in Spring). We expect the volunteers to commit for the whole duration. We are located in the middle of a national park. We expect applications from those who are ready to live in the most rural area of Europe. We ask no previous experience, the most important thing is to be motivated, ready for independent life, speak English. Our youth center is not an open youth house, we receive youth groups who stay overnight and do activities in nature. Our staff is extremely experienced pedagogical youth workers. We have many different types of areas of knowledge when it comes to outdoor and environment education and international youth work. During the spring, summer and autumn, we have camp schools, summer camps, international activities, social youth work, etc. Volunteers will help with the groups and with daily tasks of the youth center.
Number of volunteers: 1 volunteer between 18-30 years old (Only Azerbaijani citizenship)
Project period – 01/04/2024 to 30/09/2024 (total of 26 weeks)

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements: Accommodation is organised in the youth center premises. We offer private room, but shared kitchen and shower/toilet. Our youth center is kind of like a hostel. Accommodation/our youth center is located 20 minutes from the village / supermarket. And 1,5 hours drive away from the closest city (Kuopio). During the volunteering the volunteers will have the possibility to go to the supermarket with our staff members or other interns or so. Volunteers can also use bicicles and other outdoor gear to move around the nature. We have excellent outdoor hiking areas nearby, and a lake all around.
Training during the activity: The volunteer will be prepared for the work tasks. There will always be a supervisor for the volunteer on the work tasks who will give guidance at work, depending the tasks the work supervisor can change during the six months. The volunteer will also take a part to an on-arrival training in the end of May. In that training the volunteers can meet other volunteers who are currently staying in different parts of Finland. This training will be on the other side of Finland. The volunteers will also have as a contact person the coordinator of international activities and a mentor.
Participant Profile: Someone who wants to learn about youth work and outdoor education, someone having/interested in green values. Tell us what you are interested in. We can offer youth work and participate leading groups (which unfortunately is mostly in Finnish, so is not always possible to fully participate), we can offer maintenance and kitchen tasks (big industrial kitchen), we can also offer tasks with development of international youth work. More precise description of tasks shall be agreed. We can host people with special needs sometimes, tell us if you have any (maybe we can adjust/offer extra support) 🙂
