Purpose of the project:

The project is to take place in Siberia on the period 13th of March-10th of April 2022. All young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who would like to actively support us in setting up the Sustainable Tourism Zone and the Wilderness Park Zentralny Sayan are hereby invited. If you want to stay longer, to get to know the wildlife in the east (beyond the down-flocculated oat milk cappuccino) better and have home studies anyway, you should pack your laptop. Here on the edge of the wilderness, there is also internet. Since 2007 we have regularly carried out international youth projects in the vicinity of the largest ecological community in Russia. Since 2020 we have been involved with several international partners and a local citizens’ movement in the development of the ecological example region ECOREG in the central Sayan Mountains. International volunteers and the development of sustainable community-based tourism play a special role here. At the moment we are marking hiking routes through wilderness areas with volunteers and are working on the development of simple tourist accommodation made of ecological building materials, a protection concept for the wilderness region of the Kasyr-Kysyr basin and training young wilderness guides. Solidarity principles in and with the local population are essential.

Number of volunteers: 5 volunteers between 18-30 years old (Only Azerbaijani citizenship)

Transportation cost: 800 euro

Activities: 

  • Prepare our straw precast construction project for ecotourism accommodation
  • Perform snowshoeing and trail marking of wilderness routes
  • Create a wilderness camp with children
  • Train the future youth leaders of the nature park in winter survival and group leadership
  • Completion of the Banya (bathhouse) at Lake Tiberkul, make firewood and dedicate it
  • A snowshoe tour across all lakes (which of course are mostly frozen over)
  • Possibly a demanding winter hiking tour on one of the mountains of the Sayan

What is needed on your part?:

  • A thirst for adventure, determination, a good mood and a valid passport
  • A focused letter of motivation why you want to participate and what situation you are in at the moment
  • Cash or borrowed funds to pre-finance your visa and your ticket and your PCR test, which you will get reimbursed upon arrival here
  • The willingness to get involved in a social and ecological project in solidarity and to bring your talents to bear
  • Warm clothes and a desire for snow and being outside in winter
  • A negative PCR test at the start that is not older than 24 hours
  • Confirmation of foreign health insurance for Russia for the travel period
