This is an international community of around 20 people in winter and 30 in summer living tightly together and sharing resources. Sustainable living, eco-consciousness, community building, and active citizenship are some of the core themes around which the activity revolves. There are 3 different positions the applicants can opt for. The work involves developing the physical infrastructure of the ecovillage, gardening, and participating in international projects. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements:

The volunteers have simple accommodation, either a small room or shared room with each other, and the same conditions apply to permanent inhabitants and are part of the voluntary simplicity of life in Suderbyn. Volunteers are divided into two groups and start in April and October 2021 respectively. Food is ecological, vegan and is procured in bulk for the whole community. There is no meat and limited dairy consumption. The town is 8km away. A bike will be assigned to each volunteer upon their arrival. There is a carpool on-site and a bus station close by.

Application conditions and requirements for volunteering:

The main criterion for GSXI is the personal motivation of candidates to engage in sustainable lifestyle and community living. It’s important to demonstrate a basic understanding of actual living conditions in Suderbyn. Those who show curiosity and enthusiasm towards the areas mentioned above are more likely to be selected. The project setting ultimately involves a rural lifestyle and might not be suitable for those who prefer urban activities. Good luck!
