Purpose of the project: GSX will bring together 6 young persons in Suderbyn Permaculture Ecovillage which defines itself as a social laboratory, an experiment and a playground. The volunteers will be living and working as co-residents and will have the opportunity to experience all the aspects of a holistic model of sustainable living Suderbyn offers for a year. This is an international community comprised of around 20 people in winter and 30+ in summer living tightly together and sharing resources. Sustainable living, eco-consciousness, community building and active citizenship are some of the core themes around which the activity revolves. The work involves developing the physical infrastructure of the ecovillage, gardening and participating in international projects. English is the main language of communication. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements:
The volunteers will have simple accommodation, either a small room or shared a room with each other, and the same conditions apply to permanent inhabitants and is part of the voluntary simplicity of life in Suderbyn. Volunteers are divided into two groups and start in April and October 2020 respectively. Food is ecological and is procured in bulks for the whole community. Common meals are prepared vegan. There is no meat and limited dairy consumption. The town is 8 km away. A bike will be assigned to each volunteer upon their arrival. There is a carpool on site and a bus station close by.
Application conditions and requirements for volunteering:
The main criterion for GSX is the personal motivation of candidates to engage in sustainable lifestyle and community living. It’s important to demonstrate a basic understanding of actual living conditions in Suderbyn. Those who show curiosity and enthusiasm towards the areas mentioned above are more likely to be selected. The project setting ultimately involves a rural lifestyle and might not be suitable for those who prefer urban activities.
